Tatlong imbitasyon...

Please join the friends, colleagues and admirers of the late Most Reverend Alberto B. Ramento, the 9th Obispo Maximo of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente , bishop of the poor workers and peasants," advocate of a just and lasting peace, and staunch fighter for human rights, in a multisectoral tribute on 11 October 2006, 6:45 pm at the IFI Cathedral on 1500 Taft Avenue, in front of PGH (Philippine General Hospital. The tribute will be preceded by an ecumenical service under the auspices of Kairos Philippines at 6pm.

The brutal and treacherous killing of Bp. Alberto Ramento, in his convent and in the early morning of October 3, is a heinous crime worthy of the condemnation of all decent and upright people in this country.

The police, including the head of the Task Force Usig, have chosen to disregard Bp. Ramento's background of being an outspoken critic of the Arroyo administration. In fact, the bishop had minced no words in raising questions about its legitimacy in light of compelling evidences of electoral fraud; in denouncing this regime's bloody record of human rights violations; and, most recently, in ringing the alarm bells against the sinister push for Charter Change.

More importantly, it was the good bishop's taking up the cudgels for the poor and downtrodden like the striking Hacienda Luisita workers, civilians hit hard by the government's "all-out war against the Left" and unflagging support for peace negotiations between government and the National Democratic Front that probably earned him the ire of the fascists in and out of government.
