Trip to Bangkok or iPad?

As early as December last year, I have already booked our flight to Bangkok. We're supposed to stay there from June 18-22 and celebrate Father's Day there like last year in Hong Kong. But that may no longer happen due to current political turmoil in Bangkok.

If our planned trip to Bangkok will not push through, I might just use the extra budget to buy an iPad.

iPad

iPad 16GB (wifi) cost only US$ 499 from Apple Store (US) but it is being sold locally for P33,000.

I really want this gadget. It's perfect for my job, especially during my one-on-one presentation with clients. My ASUS K42F notebook is too heavy to always carry around and my ASUS EEE PC is too small for presentations.

Yes, I want this gadget. But I'm not sure if I'm prepared to pay P33,000 for it. Got to find a way to get it for US$499 only. :-)

Whether it's trip to Bangkok or an iPad, this will be both great Father's Day gift from me to myself. :-)

Using my SE608i Smart 3G phone for my ASUS EEE PC internet connection

I was able to connect to internet using my Sony Ericson 608i as dial modem for my ASUS EEE PC. Although I have a limited knowledge using Linux, I was able to configure it easily.

Here's how I was able to do it.

Following the instructions here and here, here's the step-by-step way of doing it.

The idea here is to create a dial up profile using your 3g phone.

1.Plug your SE 608i into your EEE PC via USB

2.Create a dial up connection using the network connection tools. Use *99# as the dial up number and complete the network creation wizard

3.Launch a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) to edit the following files:

a. /etc/ppp/peers/dialup1 - the last few lines should appear like this:
modem
/dev/ttyACM0
460800

b./etc/chatscripts/dialup1 - the file should look like this:

ABORT VOICE
ABORT BUSY
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
ABORT "NO DIAL TONE"
TIMEOUT 120
"" ATZ
OK ATV1E0
OK AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
OK ATD*99#
CONNECT \c

4. Don't forget to save the files. :-)

5. Connect using the dial up profile you have created.

ASUS EEE PC Wifi Problem No More

From the network settings, simply change the default channel from 6 to Any.

I also followed this instruction:

open a terminal and type:
sudo dhclient -r
let that complete, then type:
sudo dhclient

I also edited the file, /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/0001xandros-wireless-tools, by launching a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and by following instructions here.

So there. This entry was posted using my ASUS EEE PC.

Ang hirap mag type! hehe!

I've got a new toy: ASUS EEE PC

Kainis.
