It has been a week now that I've been trying to activate my SMART Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) but without luck. Calling *888 is no use. I'm just being referred to their Mobile Help Desk only to find out that the said help desk is for device related problems, not activation problem. Then I tried to contact SMARTCares.
In fairness to SMARTCares, they reply quick unlike *888 who will promise to call you back but they won't. Unfortunately, the problem is still unresolved.
Do you have SMART BIS activation problem, too?
I got my Blackberry Curve 8520 from SMART when I renewed by SMART Gold subscription plan a week ago. Before I decided to get the Blackberry Curve 8520, I asked about the BB unlimited plan but was told that it's not available for SMART Gold Plans. I was offered the P.15/kb consumable plan. Thus, I did not avail of their BIS plan. I want to check my options first, as I have my Palm Treo 680 working anyway.
Realizing that I need to have a BIS to utilize the device fully, I then contacted *888 and asked for more information on how to activate the data plan. That is where I learned about the Blackberry unlimited plan which according to Customer Service Rep is now available for SMART Gold plan subscribers. I immediately subscribed to the monthly unlimited plan for P1,200 by sending BB MONTH to 2207. I received a confirmation about my subscription plan but I still have the same problem - can't set up email and apps won't work.
I went to SMART wireless center in MOA the following day. I was advised to register at www.smart.blackberry.com.ph. It's a blank page. Turned out that it should be smart.blackberry.com, without the .ph. I registered my device and set up an email account. Turned off my device, pull out the battery for a minute and then inserted the battery back to turn the device on. It did not solve my BIS activation problem.
I then looked for answers using Google. Apparently, it's a common problem based on the comments posted here. So far here's what I have done.
- Resend the service book.
- Tried to register Host Routing Table - no entries, I just received a message that registration was sent.
- Changed my APN settings to blackberry.net
I changed the APN settings to blackberry.net because according to SMART Customer Rep, this will allow me to surf the net without being charged P10/30 minutes.
Until now, I have these problems:
- No Email
- Facebook and OpenBleak and other apps won't work - no data service available
- I can browse some websites but receives a Bad Gateway error message when visiting certain sites - My P1200 unlimited has been running since March 3, 2010. Do I hear rebates?
SMART should make information about their Blackberry Internet Service available in their website. They should also train their staff at Wireless Centers well to handle queries about BIS. Don't let subscribers beg for information.

ReplyDeletei used to avail of the week-long service, which worked fine, until there was this one time that the service didn't push through. after several "unhappy" phone calls with them, i managed to speak with a shift manager who then approved the reversal of the charge. unfortunately, none from the technical team gave me a call to give explanations. this happened some time in march.
when i heard that a month-long service was made available, i immediately registered for it as soon as my week-long subscription expired. the first time i tried it, i never got any confirmation text messages. sought help from SmartCares Twitter account, and they advised me that there were some enhancements done, and suggested that i switch back to the week-long service in the meantime. fine.
after another week, i tried registering for the month-long service. i did get the confirmation text messages, and was happy to see that my signal was still in uppercase. after about 5 minutes, the signal went to lowercase. confused, i did several hard resets to no avail. called the hotline 4 hours later, and demanded to have it fixed, and be contacted by someone from their technical team, lest they were up for rounds and rounds of tongue lashing on the phone and have the calls be escalated to a manager. already told them that this had happened before, and that they review my notes.
perhaps by the grace of God, people did contact me almost regularly to check on the status. now running almost 5 days, the issue still hasn't been resolved. they've now decided to escalate the matter to Novare, which i know is a group dedicated to the BlackBerry technology here in the Philippines. i'm hoping that they get to fix the issue. otherwise, customer service is gonna hear from me again, and will demand to have the charge fully reversed, and to have their month-long adverts be taken out of their marketing materials.
I still have a pending issue with SMART. I availed of P1200/month unlimited BIS. But when I received my S/A, I was surprised with my bill. I was charged the regular per kilobyte rate!

calling their hotline is no use because the people there have no idea what to do.same goes as with the people at @smartcares on twitter. they are very friendly but they keep giving me troubleshooting options that i've already done.
before subscribing to the monthly plan, i had been using the weekly plan without a hitch. now my P1200 will go to waste.
i was wondering if my problem with the bis has anything to do with the fact that i'm on a prepaid sim card. before smart, i was using globe (prepaid also) and i had the same problem.
i'm thinking of applying for a postpaid line if that would help me with seamless blackberry services. a lot of my bb user friends are on globe, but smart accepts open - line phones. globe accepts them too but they lecture you too much about them being not responsible if bis doesn't work since it's not from globe blah blah.

My problem is this. I am was using smart prepaid.
ReplyDeleteLoaded my prepaid account with 1200 pesos and an additional 15 pesos to make sure that I had at least 1 peso balance.
I then texted BB Month and sent it to 2207
I was able to registed to BIS ok setup my emails, instant messages, facebook and tweeter on the blackberry.
did a balance inquiry and it showed 15 pesos plus a certain number free text messages to all network)
after an hour my balance fell to 5 pesos. a few days passed and my balance was still 5.
Now I wanted to make some calls so i loaded it yesterday with 300 pesos . After a day of not using my phone i was shocked to see that my balance was down to 235 pesos. I had not made a single call since.
So naturally i called *888 to complain etc. and they said that i was being charged because i was surfing the internet. I informed them that i subscribed to their blackberry 1 month package and i should not be charged for this etc. They said all they can do is write a report and forward that report to the billing department to get the charges reversed.
In the meantime, i continue to be charged 10/ 30 mins.
Is there anyone out there who knows how to fix this?
Is it the APN settings that i have?
Is it the "enable WAP push" in browser push

hello.. my smart prepaid BIS plan is working seamlessly for the past weeks. however, i noticed recently that my prepaid balance is still being deducted by 10-50 pesos [not everytime though] even if i am using the unlimited service. do you happen to know why? thanks!

ReplyDeleteYette, there seems to be a billing system problem. I have that prob every month. Call *888 to dispute the bill. Make sure though that your APN Settings is set to blackberry.net.

I've been experiencing the same problem lately. When i subscribed for BB DAY before, i enjoyed their service but the problem is when it expired, it consumed my remaining balance. Then i discovered their LITE offers. I tried SOCIAL DAY and not having any problems until lately. I received their confirmation that my service but still cant use the service.

ReplyDeletehello, everytime i try to use facebook, msn or just go on my browser on my blackberry it comes up with something that says "unable to connect to the internet, please try again later. if the problem persists please contact your service" it has been happening for over 2 weeks and my bbm is not working either, i have connected my wi-fi at home to my blackberry and its still not working and i have internet time on my pay as you go bolt ons? any ideas what the problem could be?

On the second day, after the expiration, I registered with SOCIAL WEEK and still experiencing the same problem.
Customer support is worst! if you dial *888, it will take you 30mins before they will answer the call and if you talked with customer service they don't know what to do or just cut the line.
If anyone knows the solution for this, please share it. Thank you.
Hi Guys, I experienced the same problem too. I can't get my BIS to work even with the troubleshooting steps I did. Tried calling *888 and all reps I was able to talk to were rude, they disconnected my calls after putting me on hold. Smart should do something about it. otherwise, they will lost their subscribers.

ReplyDeleteI have the same dilemma. Kaka-receive ko lang nung BB ko last last week and I subscribed immediately to Social Day. Gumana naman siya and everything went well until it expired. It was a few days before ako nakapag-subscribe ulit pero hindi na siya gumana. I tried registering to smart.bb.com, pero account is deactivated daw or suspended. Don't even know what that means.
Sa mga naka-resolve ng ganitong issue, pa-post naman po ng mga ginawa niyo.
I also messaged SmartCares but they take too long to reply. Sayang pera when you can't use a service you paid for.
I'm planning to unlock my phone and switch to Globe BIS kasi wala sila gaanong problema dun.

Second month into their BB subscription plan and i encountered the same problem. last month, i wasnt able to use my subsrciption for ten days (and they had the nerve to bill me for the full amount of subscription which is 1200!!!) Two days ago, i again subsrcibed to the BB plan (this time only for the email) and what do you know, i could not again access the service! My goodness, they should not have offered BB for their retention plans if their system is not yet ready for the same!

DeleteHi got the same issues with vikki got my new bb recently and immediately subscribe to smart SOCIAL WEEK and got no problems until it expires. I can still use my twitter and facebook apps using my WIFI connection I am afraid to use these apps because I might get notice from smart to pay some heck bills so I decided to subscribe for another week with their plan this time around I couldn't register it keeps on failing. They say that there is a network congestion.

Hi..have the same problem. Have first registered to social week and it worked fine, after it expired registered again to social month and was very happy with the service. After it expired last april 29 tried registering again but ended up losing all my 300 load to the 10/30 internet service which of course I did not use. Until now I cannot access my ym and bb contacts although it says im registered to bb social week. Have waited patiently at smart customer service but they tell me that its my unit that has a problem(mine is 8520 curve bought it abroad). I say its smart that has the technical problem and they are not responsible enough to deal with it. Have tried battery pull several times already but still no luck. Has anybody been able to resolve this issue with their unit? Pls. help. It is such a waste if we cannot make use of this bbm service. ReplyDeleteI have a running balance of more than Php 5,000 despite subscribing to an unlimited BB service plan. And I'm pretty sure those are data charges as I barely text and make calls. Anyone who had the same problem? Can I dispute this when the bill becomes available?
ReplyDeleteCK, welcome to the club! I have that problem for more than one year now. Monthly I have to dispute data charges but in fairness, they actually reverse those charges. It would have been better though if they will fix their apparent billing system problem. It sucks.

ReplyDeletebest solution. after activating your BIS. Go to >OPTIONS >ADVANCE OPTIONS >HOST ROUTING TABLE click menu or blackberry logo then >Register now. wait for about 30 mins.
ReplyDeleteafter 30 mins. remove the battery for about 30 mins. then after 30 mins insert the battery and wait for the fucking 3G/GPRS/EDGE capslock.
if not. just wait about 1-1 1/2 hr. it will activate.
SMART Telecommunications have DELAY on this kind of SERVICE from blackberry. i dont know why.
maybe its because they have huge number of subscribers.
for GLOBE PH. its FAST.
so switch to globe. :D just kidding!..

I buy a new Blackberry Storm2 9550 Mobile and unfortunately i register the mobile on http://smart.blackberry.com/ with my PIN and IEMI No., as i'm a new user of Blackberry mobile and i didn't understand that the BIS services is upon country and mobile service provider.
Know when i register it on my service provider BIS its say your service is activated.

ReplyDeleteregister the bb data plan you want
then reboot your phone
you'll receive a confirmation
then go to host routing table and register
and that's it...
hope it works for you too..

SMART should have not carried blackberry services!
better to call hotline blackberry help desk 8931510 rather than calling smart call center because smart call center agents are ALL STUPID!!!

Good thing the last smart call center agent i have talked to gave me this help desk number because she can't resolve the problem. Mukhang dinugo na sa mga queries ko at init ng ulo ko!!! if i got the help desk number 3 weeks ago then the problem should have been resolved in just a snap!

ReplyDeletemy BB SOCIAL MONTH lasted only for 2 days... then till now, di na talaga gumagana... fb, ym & bbm... di ko na magamit. feels like i've thrown P299. I called out more than twice the Customer Care but it normally takes 30 minutes (at the earliest) or more before the agent would respond. Registered registering on https://smart.blackberry.com/ but says my account has been temporarily suspended or deactivated. If anybody knows how to get rid of this, appreciate sending links and infos to my email: jumangz@gmail.com otherwise, better off to Globe instead. I am almost disappointed!

DeleteSame problem with smart. I was billed for internet browsing e wala namang gprs/internet setting na nasend for my blackberry. I emailed them na I was using WIFI to connect to the internet, ang sabi automatic daw na nagconnect sa GPRS after i-turn off ang WIFI. I also have a hard time using bb services, kaya nagswitch na ako sa globe

ReplyDeleteGot the same problem... Registered for bb lite social weekly last night, got the confirmation but still can't access any site. I noticed though that I can't change my browser to "Social Browser" instead of the default Smart Sandbox browser. Usually the browser is automatically changed to Social once confirmation is received. I think that's the reason why I can't access fb,ym or twitter. Is there anyone here who had experienced the same? Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks!

ReplyDeletepag inOFF mo naman, hndi ka makakapag browse sa internet kahit na gumamit ng WIFI.
iOFF mo yung SIM na SMART then ON yung DATA SERVICES para makapag browse ka ng internet using WIFI.
walang ganitong problema sa GLOBE.

ayun, wagas ang pagbawas ng load mo sa SMART.
kaya totoo tlga ang commercial ng GLOBE na NAKAW LOAD!

ReplyDeletemas ok pa ang globe when it comes to bb subscribers, you can use your bb phone as modem. Although globe's hotline is not 24/11, di mo naman kailangan madalas na tumawag. Unlike smart, mag aanatay ka 30 min bago may sumagot at wala naman alam ang sasagot. I recently just moved in here in the province and I have no choice but give up globe due to poor signal. Was able to use bb services (smart) for a month until 5 days ago, no mails, no ym and bbm. I just though baka congested lang ang network since madaming tao sa white beach dahil holy week. I tried using mobile google and map, it worked! Pero wala pa din e mail at bbm. Suko na ako. Nagsawa na ako tumawag sa hotline kasi paulit ulit sagot.

ReplyDeletePLEASE HELP NAMAN..I have a BB Storm 9500..I tried Registering for a BIS account but it keeps on saying " Your BlackBerry® Internet Service Account is suspended or deactivated"..I called Globe and sabi nila dapat daw best way na gawin ko eh ipacheck physically yung BB Storm 9500 ko sa may alam ng ganung case. hay.. nasasayang na load ko kakaregister pero di ko man lang magamit BBM, Facebook,Twitter, Mails,etc.. =( Please help..
ReplyDeleteFor SMART.."mms on" works just fine..nangyari sakin yan just now, i call *888 and un ang sabi, d ko gets ung register o log in sa smart.blackberry.com o kung kailangan ba tlga..although Social lng ung subscription ko, ok naman xa after restarting my phone. remove the bat after reactivating gprs..^_^..

Deletevery disappointed w/ smart's bb unli package for 1 day... already registered via text since 5:40pm but doesn't receive any notifications upon registering thru host routing until now... what the heck is happening? 12 hours but cannot use the service, what a waste of money! *NOT RECOMMENDED* also called the CSR but no help at all! =(

I've been a bb user for nearly 2 years, with globe that is... wala ako naging problema, aside sa napaka seldom na nawawalan ng signal globe. then when i got this loyalty reward from globe, i hot myself a new bb. so yung unang BB ko pina openline ko, then i tried using smart bis... gumana cya for a week, then nagulat nalang ako, yung load ko na 250+ naubos bigla, e samantalang magkano lang naman yung weekly promo ng smart. then nagpa load ako ulit, amfufu, wala pa 5mins, nangalahati load ko, worse, nung nag subscribe ako sa promo ulit, lowercase na yung signal at di ko na magamit service! SMART SUCKS!! not to mention yung SMARTBROken nila.. kasi lagi broken / wala ping at sobrang kupad!

ReplyDeleteganyan ang problem q ngaun! paulet ulet nq tumatawag sa smart tpos kung ano2 pinapagawa eh wala din nmn ngyayare,tpos tumatawag aq sa BB hotline eh ndi nmn sinasagot.. then sbi q mg dispute nlng aq since wala nmang kwenta,sabi ng smart after pa daw ma expire yung subscription saka lng daw pede ma refund un! pero for sure kung ano2 pa gagawin nila,kesyo forward sa tech support or fraud dept.! ka imbyerna! sayang lng yung 300, masisira na ata yung phone kaka on-off!

ReplyDeleteI registered to SMART's BB Day and got the confirmation. Then I tried using my Facebook for BB and mobile browser but nothing happened and my load dropped to 5 pesos. I tweeted my problems and then @smartcares replied to me and checked what happened. They told me I browsed 5 times that's why they deducted load from me. What the heck.
Seriously guys, you have to transfer to Globe although the signal sucks sometimes or most of the times. But at least, registration is hassle-free. You just have to text BB Social like that to 8888, no more hassle registration needed.
And your handset has no problem or issues in activating Blackberry Internet Service, the problem got something to do with SMART’s Blackberry Internet Service.

maganda ba sa GLOBE?.... panu un ulit ung pag rgister lahat ng mga emails?... pati number?... kilangan bang ei WIPE or no need?.. thanks
smart is not compatible with BB, I have same issues with you guys but when i try a prepaid sim from globe its working. everything find fro BES, BIS, etc, etc....I think the hardware used by globe is far better than smart...

Deletesana wag na lang ilagay ng smart na sila ang biggest telecommunication company di naman nila ma resolve ang mga problem kahit dalahin s center nila wala inirerecommend and agent but to turn ON/OFF ang phone pero useless :((((

ReplyDeleteI registered last night in SOCIAL MONTH of smart.. I encountered the same problem, and called the customer service several times. they advised me the same thing. set your APN to blackberry.net and they monitored my status. until one customer service advised me to turn off my phone, remove the battery and reinsert my sim card. and then as I open it.. BOOM! :) my BIS becomes activated. you will know this when you have the network mode of capital EDGE, G3 and a blackberry logo. if not in capital then, hindi pa po activated. I am really hoping this one works with all of you too para hindi masayang ung mga registered data plan niyo. Thank you and God bless us all.

ReplyDeletehay nako bwsit smart samething happen to me. sa ibang bansa naman di naman gnito kahirap mgkroon ng blackberry service for example sa dubai, ttype mo lng bb then send mo sa gateway nla wala pang 1 minuto may service ka na, pero dito sa pinas bulok...hayz!
ReplyDeleteShift na lang kayo sa Globe. Never had problems with switching from my network here in Jakarta to Globe every 6 months. My boyfriend tried switching to Smart because he changed residence and Globe signal in his area is quite weak but his P1,200 was wasted. Nothing was done about it even after continuously badgering Smart Customer Service. Nakakabwisit! Now he's back to Globe but we can only bbm when he's at the terrace. Well, better than nothing!

ReplyDeleteNakakaasar ang serbisyo napakamahal pa, nagplan din aq ng 300 for social network, late q na nalaman na 1200 na pala yung plan for just only social network?.. Hindi nila binalik yung 300 ko, ano akala nla sa atin tumatae ng pera na itatapon lang ng ganun? Hindi nga mkapagtataka kung bkit hindi tau umasenso, mas maganda pa ang serbisyo sa ibang bansa at napakabilis pa..
