BlackBerry Curve 8520 | "I want to create or add an email address" option, missing

I have just renewed my subscription plan with SMART yesterday and as a result, I got a free phone - a BlackBerry Curve 8520! It's actually my third free phone from SMART. I'm such a loyal subscriber. hehe!

But I'm having problem setting up my email account. The "I want to create or add an email address" option in the email set up is missing. I need this to set up my gmail account, where I forward my work email account.

I googled for answers why and how to fix it. Apparently, Blackberry Curve 8520 (or is it all BlackBerry devices?) needs to have a data plan to add IMAP email accounts.

At first, I did not avail of the Blackberry Internet Service plan from SMART thinking that IMAP emails will work via wifi connections. I was wrong. I decided then to avail of SMART's Blackberry Unlimited Plan for one month. But that did not change anything at all. The "I want to create or add an email address" is still missing.

I'll be going to SMART Wireless Center tomorrow and have it fixed. Hopefully.

I actually prefer a Palm Pre or iPhone but I don't have the budget for that right now. I'm currently using a Palm Treo 680. Selling my two smart phones to buy a better one is an option I might consider a month from now.

Palm Treo 680 SMS Truncated

After installing Mundu IM and 2TwitMe, my Palm Treo 680 started to encounter problem - truncated SMS.

I don't have this problem prior to installation so I suspected that is has something to do with the new apps. I made a soft reset hoping it will solve the problem but without luck.

I was about to do a hard reset when I thought of searching for other solution.

Luckily, I found one. The power of Google. :-)

Here's how to solve your SMS Truncated problem:

1. Download Filez if you don't already have it, and run it. Download the file here. You can download it direct to your Treo.

2. Go to "View Preferences" (If you're in "View and edit files" mode, press "close" to go back to the main screen).

3. Choose 'Saved' on the selection on the right side.

4. Find PIL! key and delete it.

5. Done, it doesn't even need a reset.

It indeed solved my Palm Treo 680 SMS truncated problem!

2TwitMe for my Palm Treo 680

I have just installed 2TwitMe, a full featured Twitter client for Palm OS 5 and above. Except for the registration problem that I encountered, 2TwitMe works perfectly with my Palm Treo 680. I just hope that they reply soon to the support ticket that I've just sent.

2TwitMe is now on sale at Palm Infocenter for only US$3.95. If you want this twitter client for your Palm Smartphone, you have until December 15 to avail of the promo.

Here's a comprehensive review about 2TwitMe. Tweeting using my Palm Treo 680 is now made easy! No need to open a browser to access the Twitter mobile version.

Twitter Client for Palm Treo 680

I finally found a twitter client for my Palm Treo 680 - MoTwit. It's easy to install and more importantly, it's FREE!

Through MoTwit, I can now send a tweet through my phone without needing to open a mobile browser. The limitation, however, is that in order to read tweets from people I follow, I still need to open a browser. Not a perfect twitter client but this will do for now.

Are you into twitter, too? You may follow me @apolthegreat and @gatewaytocanada.

Palm Treo 680 Leather Skin Case from e-Bay

Finally, I got the item I bought online through e-Bay - a leather skin case for my Palm Treo 680.

The first item that I attempted to buy online through e-Bay was an AC/DC Adaptor Travel Charger for my ASUS EEE PC. I tried two times from two different sellers but both were unsuccessful. The good thing about it though, is they both refunded the payments I made.

Now, I'm e-Bay virgin no more!
